Our Story

Our Story

Welcome to Acceptance Nurse Psychotherapy, the only Nurse Psychotherapy Clinic in Canada.

Owner and Founder, Sheena Howard wants to share a healthcare insider secret:

Nurses want to help.

Everybody.

As her RN, Psychotherapy private practice grew and grew, her waitlist became long and eventually filled. It hurt her to turn people away when they bravely reached out for help. When someone comes to her door, she wants them to walk in and find the help they need. So… to ensure the door can stay open, Acceptance Nurse Psychotherapy was born.  She has curated a team of Nurses, Psychotherapists who she wholeheartedly believes in and trusts.

Acceptance Nurse Psychotherapy associates are brilliant people who deeply believe in and practice love-led leadership. They are outstanding professionals whose experience is as diverse as the people they care for. They are experts in their fields of nursing and bring their talent for connection and compassion to their psychotherapy practice. If you are matched with one of our associates, you are in good hands. Acceptance associates will walk confidently alongside you wherever you are in your journey and support you to reclaim your life and restore your belief in yourself.

Vision and Mission

Sheena Howard has always been authentic and loving with her patients and in her interactions with her colleagues, but too often she noticed that nurses are taught that love is a weakness and not professional. Sheena had been so used to hiding that she “cared too much” that she had not embraced the simple truth that she is, to her very core, a love-led leader.

Sheena got tired of battling the idea that there was no place for love in healthcare.

She believes that love is a strength and that people do their best work when they’re aligned with their truest values and strengths. So she set out to handpick a team that believes that love is the way forward in healthcare.

Sheena knows she did a good job of what she set out to do, and can’t wait for you to meet the Acceptance Nurse Psychotherapy Associate Team.

Our Present

At Acceptance Nurse Pyschotherapy we no longer want to hide that we love our work, our patients, our colleagues and healthcare. We are striving to make love-led leadership visible.

We are love-led leaders and the hallmarks of our work are advocacy, curiosity, pattern seeking and human connection. We’ve devoted our entire nursing career to sitting with thousands of people across the age and gender spectrum while they share their fears, losses, traumas, joys and wild hopes with us. We have seen humans at their most vulnerable and believe that our work in caring for humans is love made visible.

Acceptance Nurse Psychotherapy Mission:

With compassion and love we embrace our responsibility to help the world’s people become confident and content.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Statement

At Acceptance Nurse Psychotherapy, we acknowledge that the land we stand on, from coast to coast to coast, is the ancestral and unceded territory of many First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples, and these lands have been stewarded and inhabited by Indigenous peoples from time immemorial. We recognize the enduring relationship between Indigenous peoples and these lands, and we are committed to deepening our understanding and respect for Indigenous knowledge, cultures, traditions, and present-day struggles as well as fostering meaningful relationships based on mutual respect and understanding.

Our clinic is resolutely committed to anti-oppression, anti-racist, anti-sexist, and anti-discriminatory practices against LGBTQ+ communities. We vehemently reject homophobia, transphobia, and all forms of bigotry and discrimination. By actively challenging and dismantling systemic barriers and biases, we strive to create a therapeutic environment where every individual, irrespective of their race, gender, sexuality, or background, feels valued, heard, and respected.

In this sanctuary of healing, every story is acknowledged, every voice is heard, and every background is respected. We stand in firm solidarity with marginalized, Indigenous and racialized communities. We are dedicated to supporting the mental and emotional well-being of all, as well as championing the rights and well-being of all marginalized groups. Our commitment is an ongoing journey, and we pledge to continuously educate ourselves, adapt our practices, and ensure that we are actively contributing to a just, inclusive, and equitable society.
