Shannon Culkeen
In every nurse-patient interaction, I strive to notice the minds and spirits of the patients and families I serve, alongside their physical needs. As a busy hospital nurse, I realized the importance of supporting patients’ mental well-being and became inspired to pursue psychotherapy as a means to further aid their holistic health.
My approach to therapy is deeply influenced by my experience as a Registered Nurse, seeing each client as a whole person, encompassing physical, mental, and spiritual facets. Nursing has taught me the value of collaboration and the importance of highlighting and honouring the dignity in every individual.
My specialties include a range of mental health symptoms and struggles including …
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Mood disorders
- Grief and loss
- Addiction and substance use
- Parenting and adoption
- Faith deconstruction
I work with a diverse range of clients, from 16 years and older. I love working with young adults going through big life changes, queer individuals, seniors, and those with complex faith backgrounds.
Throughout my career, I’ve been continually inspired by those living and thriving with challenging health diagnoses, and I feel honoured to be a part of their journeys to thriving. Their journeys have taught me to look beyond the surface level and recognize the transformative potential in every client I meet.
Outside of my professional roles, I engage in public speaking, advocacy, and teaching nursing students. I also work as an addictions nurse in an outpatient clinic.
If you think we’d be a good fit, or you’d like to chat about your therapy goals, I’d be delighted to meet with you for a free 15 minute virtual consultation!
